when i started working at my job, i definitely didn’t know as much as i do now… and when i think back to when shawn trained me, he must have been like “omg, really?” lol… i know i would have thought that with half of the dumb questions that i had, or things i didn’t know being hired as a developer… and i mean, i know it was his job to train me – but it impacted me greatly, and i feel like the last two years was a huge stepping stone for me. sort of into adulthood? and my career…

coding has always been my thing, but it’s at a different level now. and shawn was there paving the way with me, so to speak. i tell him he’s my mentor all the time, lol. i really do mean it though.

anyways, aside from just being co-workers, we’re totally buddies. and tomorrow is his last day at work… no more making faces next to each other, no more lunch walks, no more pointing and laughing at beardo and calling him an arrogant prick and also for being a yankee fan, no more sharing of peanut butter cups, etc. – basically, going to be missing my friends everyday company…

(inspired by my horrible memory, lol – the movie memento… s+j styles.)

sure, he’ll still be online all the time and we’ll be in the same city, but it’s not the same as being work buddies and seeing each other every day… as i wrote him before in a thank you card…

“this is an end of an era”.

this makes me seriously, very sad. :(

read: funny shawn posts!

christnana

i just ate a dried banana chip that shawn gave me… it tasted like the host at church, with a little bit o banana coating.

bleh!

at least when its the body of christ, it’s more rewarding. and/or fulfilling.

yawn

this is the second time in a row in two weeks that shawn and i ordered the same sandwich and got the same reaction… FOOD COMA. (it never happens to me?)

hissing.and.fizzing.like.snakes

shawn: I hear the low frequency hissing of your silent laughs
jessica: lol i’m a hisser?
shawn: a little bit, when you’re hiding it
it’s always “is that the heat or is jess silently dying” (laughing)

(by the way, shawn is my co-worker, sits to the left of me.)

jumpy.mcgumpy!

…so i’m sitting here, minding my business at work… working on a website build, when shawn (to the left of me) decides to try to speak to me (regular tone of voice) about a case i did that he was reviewing. …i jumped out of my skin for some reason – arms went up a little and everything.

…and so it goes… (via i.m.)

jessica: AND NEXT TIME I.M. ME
jessica: :shamed:
shawn: I think we should talk out loud more
jessica: dude its too quiet in here
shawn: so the mere sounnd of my voice doesn’t make you jump in TERROR
jessica: lol
jessica: terror
jessica: that makes me giggle
shawn: good thing you don’t code while holding a loaded gun

granola.bars

jessica: LOL

disney.warehouse

train of thought: co-worker shows me this little gem which sparks a memory…

…when i went to florida with my former significant other andrew a few years ago for my bday, we were bored the first day we were there and it was raining so we did local stuff… we found this warehouse that was selling pieces of the monorail from walt disney world and other pieces of rides and the park so we wanted to check it out. when we got there, it was more than just those items. it also held the speed bus, the cab from the fifth element, and the jeep and rhino from ace ventura 2. (which is one of my favorite movies, ever!!!!!!!!) the rhino was for sale for $5,000 dollars and i wanted it so badly!

so i was telling my co-worker shawn about this today and this was our convo…

2:03 PM Shawn: was all this for sale?
2:03 PM Jessica: yeah! i wanted the rhino
2:03 PM Jessica: i was trying to talk my ex into keepin in the backyard
2:04 PM Jessica: it was $5k
2:04 PM Shawn: A tad pricey but also almost reasonable
2:05 PM Jessica: dude for that thing, hell yes
2:05 PM Jessica: id sleep in it
2:05 PM Jessica: under the stars
2:05 PM Jessica: poke my head out of the ass to see those stars
2:08 PM Shawn: haha
2:08 PM Shawn: no one has ever said that sentence before
2:08 PM Jessica: MAYBE
2:08 PM Jessica: perhaps you’re right
2:08 PM Shawn: I just witnessed human history right there.

yee.haw!

…as if i could make these things up…

shawn and i went to pick up lunch today at almondine, and they only take cash, so i had to stop off at the ATM in the deli around the block… so inside of the deli, an odd assortment of people. one being, a black cowboy… i’m talking boots WITH THE SPURS, hat with feathers hanging off of the back and a HUGE belt buckle. (no idea what was on the buckle, i had to look away)

anyways some white dude that apparently works in our building (i didn’t see him, but shawn sees him often…) was talking to the black cowboy about another black cowboy as we were leaving.

there’s another black cowboy that roams DUMBO? wtf.

so we decided to skip almondine because the soup sucked… shawn wanted sushi so we went to peas & pickles. (deli/supermarket thing) – there he could grab his sushi, there i could grab some chips. so i was walking up the chip aisle and lo and behold… there was my midnight cowboy. listening to me ask shawns opinion on my chip decision… cool ranch doritos or french onion sun chips… he then proceeded to compliment my hair, and then goes and grabs a beer (lol, at 12:30 PM)… he then comes over to me and helps me make my final decision about my lunch snack… he told me that “every body needs to go a little french sometimes”. with this flirty little smirk, and kept moseying on out.

true story.

go.to.bed.stu

had an okay weekend…  was a little stressed out because i couldn’t get my internet up and running on friday as planned…  hung out with my little lovie jen and that was nice :)  we went shopping, i got a sparkly outfit for joanna’s birthday party on saturday…  we got some coffee, came back to my apartment…  just chilled out, watched the N, cuddled, lol…  it was nice.

saturday i took the longest journey home to queens to see erica and my mom, got some food and coffee and drove into brooklyn with steve…  we went to see my co-worker shawn for his birthday in williamsburg and had a few drinks with him before joanna’s thing…  ran into my old roomie christina again for the second time in a week…  it’s just weird because i haven’t seen her in months, and now twice in a week at the most random places…

then we went to trash bar to meet up with joanna… and that bar sucks.  and the crowd made it so shitty.  stupid brooklyn hipsters…  there was no room to stand, walk, sit, drink, dance, move, breathe.  i was getting totally claustrophobic and wanted to leave.  we stayed for a while and left because one of our friends wasn’t allowed in the bar because he was too drunk.  like i said, that bar sucks.  no biggie.

charlie and rob came over today to hang and fix my computer.  charlie had to update my windows and drivers, etc. and get this stupid wi-fi thing going so i could finally use the internet…  insanity not having it for two weeks.  so many things rely on my being on the internet, it’s ridiculous… music, freelancing, weather, email, etc. – it really sucked.  so i have wi-fi connected to some shit connection that keeps going in and out because it won’t pick up frankies router signal, no idea why.  so at some point within the week, i’ve gotta figure that out…

anyways, we did that and then had some yummy japanese food down the street from my house and then they left…  my friend louis came over today – maybe i posted about him – met him in a bar, he likes face to face – texts me lyrics randomly?  ahhhh anyways, he brought over this wonderful dvd and it kept us highly entertained for a while.  i’ve always loved NOFX so much, but it’s so great watching them tour the world.  it made me realize how much i shouldn’t take for granted seeing bands in the US…  especially often – i mean they played all these random countries and had such good turn outs at most of them.  and it’s crazy how many kids show up and ADORE THEM and NEVER get to see them.  like it was their first time playing some countries, the kids must really treasure that.  if i only got to see my favorite band ONCE in life, i don’t know what i would do…  i see the souls on average 2/3 times a year…  i need it.  it’s my sanity.

okay, i’m half asleep and posting so i’m going to lay down.
work in the morning.

:goodnight:
