mta

July 30th, 2010

i don’t know how the rest of the worlds public transportation works, but here in nyc – the mta pretty much works against you. (my friend jess and i were tweeting back and forth about this very issue this morning…)

a flimsy, plastic mta metrocard allows you to get on the trains/buses… i get a monthly unlimited through work every month via transitchek. at any rate, i’ve run into situations where the damn thing has suddenly stopped working. whether it was a bent card, scratched or whatever… you bring it to the person in the booth for help and the first thing they do is swipe it on their end to make sure you have money or rides on it… the last time this situation happened it was on one of my monthly unlimited and the booth fool could see that there was still however many days left on it… instead of hooking me up with a new card so that i could transport myself around, i get a form to fill out (and mail out) so that i can send the non-functioning metrocard back to the mta and then get a check for reimbursement… (i forget how long that takes…) none the less, i have to buy a NEW ONE in the mean time.

now – i make okay money… but with paying rent on my own, general living costs, my own bills and on top of all my shit – still contributing at my mom’s house… i don’t have an extra $100 to just throw down for a new metrocard… why the hell doesn’t the mta give me a new card and do whatever the fuck they want with the one that doesn’t work?

…greedy, greedy, ass-backwards assholes.

That’s just stupid and backwards. They’re pretty lenient here – the one time my bus pass didn’t work properly, they took all the blame and let me ride the bus for free until I got my card fixed.
